True Hero of the Week: Samichpunch

Every week, we will be hearing from a valued community member, get to know them more, and listen to their DeFi Kingdoms story! Samichpunch is a well-known community member in DeFi Kingdoms for his excellent writings on the Lost Annals of Gaia, Whale Watch Reports, and Key Token Analytics Reports. Make sure to follow in on his Medium account.

In real life, he is a corporate attorney based in the United States. His day to day tasks include capital markets (debt/equity offerings), SEC compliance and financial reporting, and corporate governance.

He has been in crypto since late 2017. His first real dive into crypto was buying Vechain back when it was VEN before its 1/100 split and transition into VET. He loves to analyze data and trends and try to make actionable conclusions about those trends. He also loves to research the most effective tactics available (META) and how to min/max in games. That is what has led him to write the Whale Watch and Key Token Analytics Reports as well as compiling data throughout the discord in the Lost Annals of Gaia.

He is a true-blooded gamer, having countless hours on Diablo series, Elder Scrolls series, Final Fantasy Series, old school RPGs, RTS games such as Warcraft and Starcraft, MOBAs such as DoTA1, DoTA2, Heroes of Newerth, Heroes of the Storm, FPS such as Overwatch and Warzones. More recently he started to get into Rocket League due to its minimal time requirement compared to 45–60 minute MOBA games.

He is also interested to exercise, spend time with his wife and kids, spikeball, pickleball, ultimate frisbee, board games and binge watching series like Yellowstone, TWD, and Riverdale with the wife (he was not too proud about the last one).

His in-game name is Taelim. As of this writing, he currently has 6,428 xJewels and 65 heroes. He has 3 gen0 heroes, 22 gen1 heroes, 16 gen2 heroes, 15 gen3 heroes, 7 gen4 heroes, and 1 gen5 hero. Out of these heroes, 11 of them are advanced classes, 2 of them are elite classes, and the rest are basic heroes.

This is his favorite hero — Presrieth Fogconqueror (#951). She was one of the first gen0 heroes he minted, and for him, the name is dope! She has also given Samichpunch a couple of mythics and summoners. I understand the love given to this awesome Wizard/Archer hero.

How did you discover DeFi Kingdoms?

The day that it launched, I was skimming the Harmony subreddit on “new” and saw this post by u/Satoshi_Harmonoto talking about 800,000% APRs. I Immediately assumed this was some crap farm token rug pull. I looked at the post and decided to play a game of DoTA but told myself to take a look after. By the time I looked at it, it was nearly 2:30AM my time and I decided to put a small amount in. Over the next couple of days as I saw how Frisky and other dev team members interacted with the community on Discord, I realized this thing was real and could be huge so I continued to invest over the next several weeks.

In your opinion, what makes this project great?

There are so many things.

First of all, the dev team is amazing. Their interaction with the community is just next level, and I’m afraid I’ll just be disappointed in every project going forward (and that has been my experience so far).
Second — the concept of intermingling DeFi with gaming is just genius. I’d heard about yield farming a lot but this was actually the first time that I actually delved into it and now I’m hooked. So many people don’t have exposure to decentralized exchanges, automated market makers and liquidity pools (among many other DeFi concepts) and I feel like this game really gets your feet wet learning about these.
Third — the cross chain plans and implications are enormous. Anyone that has accidentally purchased the wrong version of a token (looking at you MyNeighborAlice…….) and tried bridging it knows how much of a pain this is. If DFK can execute on their plans, this could create one of the best cross chain networks for liquidity. The concept of building on other chains and making that interact with the Harmony version is just genius and one of the most bullish aspects of this game in my opinion. A lot of people are going to read this and whine about how they need to focus on quests, but anyone that’s worked on any multimillion dollar/billion dollar project knows that you have to be constantly working on multiple flows in the pipeline and not just one single item for the project to continue seamlessly. I love that they are already working on this. The amount of capital that is going to flow into this game when that happens is going to blow everyone’s minds (not financial advice, just my opinion).
Fourth — the art is so great. Pixelated art is always going to be in style and you are hitting a target market that group up on these types of games in their youth and now have the financial means to jump into something like this.

What would you like to see in the future?

I’d love to see a completely separate wallet set up, or a tab on the price charts page of Defi Kingdoms that shows the current quest reward pool. The quest reward pool is going to be an integral part of the economics and success of this game, so being able to see exactly what is in it will be a great sign of transparency and health in my opinion.

Message for the Community

I know a lot of you think that it’s too late, its already a 450M circulating market cap token, but this thing is just getting started. You take a look at Axie and how much market cap it has gobbled up, couple that with where the total crypto market cap could be in a few years and there’s a huge runway for this project. It’s not too late. Time in the market is better than timing the market. Sure — if you have a crystal ball you’ll come out a much bigger winner, but I’ve never been able to time trades like that well and end up getting burned. Only invest what you can afford to lose, that way you can afford to ride it any downturns in the market.
